Situational Awareness is the ability to identify, process,
and comprehend the critical elements of information about
what is happening in your area with regards to your safety
and survival. More simply, it's knowing what is going on
around you. Having a compact radio that covers most of
the frequencies that are used by law enforcement, and
prepper groups will be a great asset.
This is a good listing of frequencys that would be useful
for "Monitoring" during any type of a emergency to find
out what is taking place.
For a great little hand held radio, that will take care of
your SHTF communications at a very low cost, I suggest one
of the many Baofeng hand held radios. These are available
online everywhere, but for warranty purpose, I would go
with Baofeng Tech. To research it,
there are a few Baofeng Groups on Facebook that you can
do some research on, and also
http://www.miklor.com, which has a tremendous amount
of information about
these radios.
I wanted to get something to keep my 2 way radio, cell phone,
flash lights, etc charged, so picked up a Solar Charger that can be mounted
to my backpack to charge things on the move, or set on the ground to charge.
It has both a 12 volt and a USB 5 volt charging ports. This should work out well.
